Custom name servers allow you to use your own branded white label name servers in place of the default name servers that Absolute Hosting assigns to its DNS Servers.
To change your name servers for any cPanel Reseller Hosting Account hosted with Absolute Hosting, log into WHM using your username and password.
On the WHM home page click Server Configuration
On the Server Configuration page click Basic WebHost Manage Setup
On the Basic WebHost Manager Setup page provide your two name server names, ie ns1.yournameservers.co.za and ns2.yournameservers.co.za
Click Save Changes
You will now need to rebuild your DNS Zones for any domains that you have already added to WHM in order for those domains dns settings to inherit the new white label name server names.
To do this, type the word Reset into WHM's menu search and click on Reset a DNS Zone
On the Reset a DNS Zone page, select the Zones you wish to Reset and click the Reset button
Click the Confirm button to reset the zone and inherit the changes performed above.
Create two A records for your two custom name servers
In order to complete the setup of your custom name servers you will need to create two A records for each of the name server records that you created above.
If the domain that you are using as your custom name servers is hosted externally then create the corresponding A records using the the following knowledge base article which provides information on what IP addresses to use
If the domain that you are using as your custom name servers is to be hosted the same server that you have with Absolute Hosting then follow the steps below.
Within WHM's Menu type the word DNS and click on DNS Functions
On the DNS Functions page click Edit DNS Zone
Select the domain name you need to add the two A records to, ie yournameservers.co.za and click the Edit button
On the Edit DNS Zone Page > Editing Zone yournameservers.co.za scroll half way down the page to the Add New Entries Below this Line section
Type the name ns1 and change the drop down value for the record type to A and provide the servers primary IP
Type the name ns2 and change the drop down value for the record type to A and provide the servers secondary IP
Refer to the knowledge base article titled What Name Servers Do I use when Registering or Transferring a Domain according to the server your service is provisioned on. Use the information provided on within the knowledge base to identify the name servers and ping each name server to get the IP address
You will now need to register your name servers at your Registrar and point the same name server values to the IP addresses provided above.
